This article will cover the two options you can add new Sales/Discounts to your website.
Shopping Cart Price Rules: These are discounts that get applied after the products have been added to the cart. Things like coupon code, free shipping, discounts in order total, buy X and get Y free, etc.
Catalog Price Rules: These are discounts that get applied to an entire section or category before being added to the cart. For instance if you want a percentage off a whole category.
1. log in to the admin panel and navigate to Marketing> Promotions> Cart Price Rules
2. Next click 'Add New Rule' in the upper right.
3. First section 'Rule Information':
- Rule Name: Sets the name for the rule.
- Description: Add a description for the rule (optional).
- Status: Activate or deactivate the rule.
- Websites: Choose which website this rule is active on.
- Customer Groups: Select which Customer type the rule is for (can select more than one: while holding CTRL-click on all wanted).
- Coupon: Choose whether or not customer needs a coupon code for this rule.
- Uses per Customer: Choose if you want to limit number of uses.
- From/To Date: Select specific date you want it active.
- Priority: Sets the order the rules will be applied if you have more than one (relevant in step 5 that lets you choose to stop further rules from processing).
4. Conditions:
Here you set what conditions you want to apply for the rule.
- Click the + to add a new condition
- Choose which condition type to use.
- The conditionals after your choice can be changed.
- The '...' indicates a value you need to enter.
5. Actions:
- Here you can choose what discount/sale to apply to the shopping cart.
- You can also choose to apply to specific item types in the cart here or leave blank for all items.
- Here is where you can choose to stop further rules from processing, which the priority option earlier determined which rule is applied first.
Shipping Discounts
"Apply to Shipping Amount" is not supported by the sync If you plan to discount shipping, it must be free shipping on applicable items or the whole order. Partial shipping discounts will not be synced to Counterpoint. Alternatively, you can also discount an amount on the order
6. Labels:
- Gives the rule a label to identify the discount.
- Can be default for all store views or choose specific labels per store view.

4. Conditions:
- Edited the same as Shopping Cart Price Rules just with different conditions available to use.
- When choosing the category clicking the symbol next to the box shows your category list then just click on the category to add it to the condition.
5. Actions
- Choose the type and discount amount here
- Here is where you can choose to stop further rules from processing, which the priority option earlier determines which rule is applied first.
